James Tarkowski is set to undergo an Everton medical on Wednesday, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The Merseysiders have won the race for the defender's signature ahead of Premier League rivals including Newcastle United and West Ham.

An Everton source has told Football Insider that Tarkowski has accepted their contract offer and is now ready to complete the formalities of the move.

He will undergo medical tests on Wednesday before putting pen to paper on a long-term agreement.

Tarkowski has had extensive options after running down his contract at Turf Moor, which expires on 30 June.

Burnley elected not to cash in on Tarkowski and blocked all approaches in January in a bid to beat the drop.

The two-time England international's reputation has survived the Clarets' relegation unscathed.

Only four teams in the Premier League conceded more goals in 2021-22 than Everton, who ultimately finished four points and two places ahead of Burnley in 16th place.

Losing out on Tarkowski will be a blow to Newcastle and West Ham among others, with both teams in the market for a centre-back.

Tarkowski has made 219 appearances in all competitions since joining Burnley in 2016 from Brentford.
