Everton are keen to prise defender Kostas Manolas from Roma this month, according to a report.

Sports site Bleacher Report claim the cash-rich Merseysiders are "serious" about pushing through a deal for the centre-back.

It is said that Everton's pursuit of Manolas is a signal of their ambitions to attract some of the best talent from Europe to Goodison Park.

Manager Ronald Koeman has already completed two deals worth up to £35million in the January window after prising Morgan Schneiderlin from Manchester United and Ademola Lookman from Charlton.

The Express reported earlier this week that Manolas is likely to command a fee of £47million, a price that would make him the third most expensive defender in history.

The Greece international has also attracted interest from Premier League outfits Arsenal and Chelsea as a result of his performances in Serie A.

Manolas, 25, is an integral member of the second-placed team in the Italian top flight, making 22 appearances in all competitions this season and only missing out when injured.

The former Olympiakos defender, who moved to Roma in 2014, is contracted to the club until 2019.

In other Everton transfer news, the club have tabled a mega striker offer.
