Everton fans have been given a major update on the club's move to sign Ernest Nuamah from Lyon, via Sky Sports journalist Alan Myers.

It had seemed as though one of those additions would be Nuamah, with it recently being suggested that the 21-year-old was close to moving to Merseyside on loan with an option to buy.

Now however, it seems as though that deal looks set to fall through for Everton, who are yet to make a signing this month.

Responding to a question on X from one fan about whether the Toffees are close to making any signings, Myers wrote: "Not heard anything atm, pretty sure the Nuamah move is very unlikely to happen."

Football Insider Verdict

Attack is undoubtedly a priority position for Moyes and co. as they look to strengthen the squad at Goodison Park in the current transfer window.

Even with the three goals they scored against Tottenham on Sunday (19 January), Everton are still among the lowest scores in the division.

It is therefore vital they find more sources of goals to help them get the wins they need to stay in the Premier League this season.

That may make it frustrating that they look set to miss out on the signing of another forward in the form of Nuamah.

However it could be noted that the 21-year-old has just one goal in 19 appearances in all competitons for Lyon this season (Transfermarkt).

Such a record may suggest he would not be the solution to the goalscoring issue at Everton anyway.

With that in mind, how costly this proves to be for the Toffees could be determined by how much other business they are able to get done between now and the window closing.
