Experienced Italian defender Gabriele Perico is undergoing a trial with Leeds, according to a report.

The former Italy Under-20 international has jetted in to England after being given the chance to impress new manager Garry Monk.

The Yorkshire Evening Post correspondent Phil Hay posted on his personal

on Wednesday evening that full-back Perico has already joined up with Leeds as he seeks a place in Monk's first-team squad.

Perico, 32, is without a club after his two-year spell at Serie B club Cesena ended last month.

The defender, who is predominantly a right-back but can also cover at centre-back, has considerable pedigree. He has accumulated 99 Serie A appearances as well as 111 in Serie B. He has also played six times for Italy Under-20s.

New manager Monk has signed strike duo Kemar Roofe and Marcus Antonsson, goalkeeper Robert Green on a free transfer and brought winger Hadi Sacko, defender Kyle Bartley and midfielder Matt Grimes to the club on season-long loan deals.

In other Leeds transfer news, the Whites are set to offer a deal to a highly-rated midfielder.
