Man United supporters will be interested to see one of their former stars continue their playing career in Mexico.

Antony finally sealed a move away from Man United this summer, with both Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford departing on loan for the 2025-26 campaign, but this player dates back much further.

Cristiano Ronaldo was involved as Bruno Fernandes decided against leaving in the most recent transfer window, and both of the Portuguese star's previous exits left supporters at Old Trafford heartbroken.

The 40-year-old is, arguably, the greatest-ever player to grace the pitch at the Theatre of Dreams, with a total of 145 goals and 72 assists across two spells, but the start to life in Manchester was slower than many remember.

Now, one player who beat him in a rather surprising list is set for a new club.

Anthony Martial prepares to join Sergio Ramos in Mexico

According to Fabrizio Romano, Anthony Martial is set to seal a move to Monterrey in the top-flight Mexican division, joining former Real Madrid star Sergio Ramos.

AEK Athens have given the Frenchman the green light to undergo a medical and sign his contract, despite only signing for the Greek club last summer, where he notched nine goals in 24 appearances.

Fans will have mixed memories of the former France international, but in just 174 appearances, he scored his 50th goal for the Red Devils, overtaking Ronaldo, who needed 190 games.

His record-breaking goal came during a 1-1 draw against Wolves in August 2019, and after a total of nine years at the club, he went on to score 90 goals in 317 games.

Which other famous footballers have played in Mexico?

Other than Ramos, who featured extensively for Real Madrid over the last two decades, some of the biggest names to feature in Mexico include Eusebio, Pep Guardiola, and Ronaldinho.

Emilio Butragueño and former Tottenham striker Vincent Janssen have also played across the Atlantic, though André-Pierre Gignac is one of the most prolific footballers, scoring 220 goals in 415 games.

Martial will be hoping to write his name into the history books over in Mexico, and after some of the displays he put on while at Old Trafford, that cannot be ruled out at all.
