Alan Hutton insists that Hull City winger Jarrod Bowen could be a "great signing" for Aston Villa after being linked with a move to the Premier League side.

The former Villa and Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, says that the 23-year-old could bring a fearlessness in attack that Dean Smith's men are missing at the moment.

Bowen has been in red-hot form for the Tigers in the Championship, netting 16 goals and chipping in with five assists in 25 appearances, with BBC reporter Ian Dennis naming Villa among his suitors ahead of the January transfer window.

Hutton, who played against Bowen four times during his time at Villa, says that his old club could do with a player of the winger's ability and attitude to turn their fortunes around in attack.

Hutton told Football Insider: "I'm a big fan of his, I played against him a few times, he's a very tough opponent.

"He's quick, makes good runs and he looks to me like a guy that plays with no fear, just a guy who enjoys playing football. For him to come in (to Villa), I think that's a little bit of what they're missing.

"Somebody to just come in, take the shackles off and just play his game because at the moment, they're missing a little bit of that on the wings. I think he could be a great signing, he can give you something a little bit different."

Bowen has a total of 54 goals in 125 appearances for Hull City, with the ability to play as  winger, a second striker or a centre forward.
