Arsenal expect to finally land Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia in the upcoming summer window, sources have told Football Insider.

The Gunners are still keen to add competition and cover between the sticks after attempting to move for the 23-year-old last year (2024).

Mikel Arteta's side launched a move for the Espanyol star but could not get a deal over the line.

They instead moved to sign Neto on a season-long loan from Bournemouth.

It is believed Arsenal are now confident of agreeing a deal to make Garcia their second summer signing, with an agreement already in place over a move for Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi.

Arsenal expect to sign Espanyol star Garcia this summer

Garcia has played every minute in La Liga for Espanyol this term, conceding 35 goals and keeping three clean sheets.

David Raya is currently the Gunners' first-choice goalkeeper and has played 35 times across all competitions this term, conceding 31 goals and keeping 13 clean sheets.

Neto has played just once for Arsenal across all competitions since joining on loan.

Arteta's need for a new goalkeeper came after the sale of former first-choice star Aaron Ramsdale to Southampton last summer (2024).

Arsenal working on deal to sign striker

Arsenal are also likely to be in the hunt for a new striker in the upcoming summer window.

Football Insider revealed last week (4 February) that Wolves star Matheus Cunha is keen to play for a bigger club despite signing a new contract in recent weeks.

Cunha attracted interest from Arsenal in the January transfer window but he pledged his future to Vitor Pereira's club.
