Barnsley have agreed a deal with Scarborough to sign defender Callum Hudson, sources have told Football Insider.

Hudson has impressed on loan at Guiseley AFC this season in the Northern Premier League Premier Division, the seventh tier of English football.

The 18-year-old's performances have attracted interest from watching scouts, and League One outfit Barnsley have now moved ahead of rivals to agree a deal.

Hudson signed a new contract at Scarborough last summer after coming through their youth setup, and they are now set to see him move on to Barnsley.

Callum Hudson set to join Barnsley from Scarborough

Hudson is now closing in on a move to Barnsley after terms were agreed, with the League One club moving quickly to snap him up.

Despite his limited experience higher up the football pyramid given his young age, the centre-back is seen as one for the future and is now set for a big move.

Their regional scouts were impressed by his displays at Guiseley AFC and feel he could make the step up and has the potential to eventually become a starter.

Barnsley have a good record at producing young players, having previously developed the likes of John Stones and they will be hoping Hudson can follow in his footsteps.

Barnsley make efforts to keep their best players

While Barnsley are planning for the future with the addition of young players to their academy ranks, they are also hoping to keep their more senior players.

Football Insider revealed earlier this month that Luton made a late move to sign Luca Connell before the transfer deadline, but ultimately missed out.

The Hatters made multiple bids for the Barnsley captain in the mid-season window, but the club stood firm and insisted he was not for sale.

The 24-year-old is under contract until 2027, while the club hold the option to extend his deal by an extra year, placing them in a strong position with regard to his future.
