Oxford United have agreed a deal to sign Huddersfield Town defender Michal Helik, sources have told Football Insider.

The 29-year-old is heading for talks over personal terms and a medical at Championship side Oxford.

Helik is set for a return to the second tier after he was relegated with Huddersfield in the 2024-25 campaign.

He has played 21 times for the Terriers across all competitions this term, scoring twice.

The seven-cap Poland international has started in 18 of those outings and has captained Michael Duff's side in recent months.

However, Helik was not in the matchday squad for the win over Wycombe in Huddersfield's last game.

He has been with Huddersfield since joining from Barnsley in September 2022.

The 29-year-old is an experienced operator at Championship level, making 158 appearances in the second tier and scoring 17 goals.

Helik also played in the Polish top tier for Cracovia and Ruch Chorzow before heading to England with Barnsley in 2020.

The centre-back's Huddersfield contract was set to run until the end of this season - but the Terriers had a one-year extension clause.

Duff's side sit fourth in League One as they target an immediate return to the Championship.

Meanwhile, Gary Rowett's Oxford are 17th in the second tier and are six points clear of the drop zone.

The U's have already signed Ole Romeny and Alex Matos this month.
