The skipper, 34, has finalised a deal to extend his spell at Stamford Bridge until the summer of 2016, prolonging his Chelsea career into an 18th season. Terry will sign a second consecutive 12-month deal in line with Chelsea's policy of awarding new contracts to player over 30. The terms have been agreed during recent talks between the two parties and the centre-back will put pen to paper in the next few weeks, possibly even during the current international break. Terry has been rewarded for a fine season in which he has started all 29 of Chelsea' Premier League matches, plus 11 other games, and has been a key figure in a campaign that is likely to end with the Londoners adding the league title to their Capital One Cup triumph last month. Manager Jose Mourinho gave his endorsement to Terry continuing his Chelsea career into his mid-30s. "John accepted that we go year-after-year, with a smile," said Mourinho, speaking last month. "He accepted the challenge and he won it and he is winning the challenge and the right to get one more year.

"That is what the club wants, that’s what John wants and that is going to happen."

The centre-back has not been put off by Chelsea’s policy of awarding 12-month extensions to players over 30 who are out of contract.

Speaking recently about his future, Terry said: "There has been a load of talk about me and the club speaking. It will happen, we both know it will happen. We are relaxed about it. I trust the club, they trust me. I’m sure things will happen soon. With the one-year roll-ons (club policy for players over 30), it’s a point to prove, it’s fighting for that next year.”
