Leeds United have tabled a bid for Brighton centre-back Haydon Roberts, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The Premier League outfit have turned their attention to winning the race for the defender, 18, as they continue their hunt for top youth talent.

A Leeds source has told Football Insider that the offer for England youth international Roberts is a "six-figure" sum.

It comes after speculation linking RB Leipzig, Derby County and Brentford with the teenage star.

Roberts has followed Leeds 2019-20 loan sensation Ben White off the production line of talent at the Amex Stadium.

He made his first-team debut aged just 17 last September and scored in a 3-1 EFL Cup defeat to Aston Villa.

The youngster has yet to add to his solitary senior appearance but is highly rated by Brighton, who regard him as capable of making a big impact in the future.

Roberts has entered the final year of his contract with the Seagulls and they are vulnerable to rival interest.

The teenager has graduated from the Brighton academy to not only play for the first team but also earn more than 20 caps at England youth level.

He has been compared to White, who was the subject of a £30million rejected offer from Leeds this summer before signing a new Brighton contract.

United have spend significant money on a number of top young talents this summer.

They completed the signing of Dutch forward Crysencio Summerville in a £1million-plus deal this week after previously landing striker Joe Gelhart, defender Cody Drameh and forward Sam Greenwood for major fees.
