Leicester City winger Silko Thomas has agreed a deal to join Wigan Athletic on loan, sources have told Football Insider.

Thomas, 20, is highly regarded at the King Power after they snapped him up from Chelsea in the summer of 2023.

Leicester feel the right-winger would benefit from spending the season out on loan in an attempt to gain regular first-team football in League One.

Wigan have now beaten off interest from a number of EFL clubs to land the winger, including clubs in the Championship who were monitoring his situation.

Thomas, 19, is highly regarded at Leicester after impressing in the Premier League 2, where he scored five goals and provided four assists in 16 games for the under-21s.

He was named on the Leicester bench in FA Cup clashes against Birmingham and Bournemouth last season, but is yet to make his senior debut.

The winger made the switch to Leicester from Chelsea’s academy in September 2023 and has impressed the coaching staff at the King Power.

Following their promotion to the Premier League, first-team opportunities would have been hard to come by for Thomas, leading to the decision to send him out on loan.

Having represented England at youth level, both for the under-15s and under-18s, the opportunity to move on loan will now allow him a chance to make his name.

Thomas came up against Wigan in last season's EFL Trophy in his first taste of senior football, and scored the winning goal against Tranmere Rovers in the same competition.

He is represented by CAA Base, who also boast the likes of Ebere Eze and Trevoh Calobah on their books – both of whom went on loan before breaking through at their respective clubs.
