Lynden Gooch is having a medical at Huddersfield Town after leaving Stoke City this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The USA international has four caps for his nation and was at the Terriers' training ground on 10 July for talks over a move to the League One club.

Gooch departed Stoke after two seasons at the bet365 Stadium and is available as a free agent after making 53 appearances for the Potters, scoring twice.

Lynden Gooch a versatile option for Lee Grant

Heading into the first season of his managerial career, little is known of Lee Grant as a manager.

As yet, it is unknown whether the former Man United goalkeeper will opt for a three-at-the-back system or a more conventional four-back.

And with that in mind, Gooch is a fantastic addition to Grant's squad, given the American is comfortable operating as a left-winger, or as a left wing-back.

What's more, despite being several years removed from his peak, the former Sunderland man brings a vast amount of experience from England's second tier with him, which will be a major boost for Grant and Huddersfield, given the Terriers have targeted several younger and less experienced players on loan this summer.

With so much riding on the outcome of the upcoming season, securing the signing of a player capped at international level represents a major coup for the League One side.

Huddersfield undergo major squad revamp

In a bid to end what has been several miserable years for the club, Huddersfield are hard to work revamping Grant's squad.

10 players, including captain Jonathan Hogg, departed this summer after the Terriers finished 10th in their first League One season in 13 years.

Ryan Ledson has joined following a seven-year stint with Preston, whilst Marcus Harness has joined from Ipswich, where Grant was a coach before taking over at Kirklees.

Aspiring to return to England's second-tier, it would be a surprise if Gooch's prospective arrival marked the end of Huddersfield's transfer business, and the club are likely going to make several more moves this summer.
