Hayden Matthews is set to arrive in England on Tuesday to finalise his move to Portsmouth from Sydney FC, sources have told Football Insider.

The 20-year-old has been a long-term target for the Championship club, who had multiple bids rejected for Matthews in the summer transfer window.

John Mousinho's side now looks as though they are about to complete a deal for their long-term target, with the defender en-route to complete the finishing touches of this transfer.

He is set to join a Portsmouth side who currently sit 22nd in the Championship table, although they are only inside the relegation zone on goal difference as things stand.

Matthews has spent his entire senior career in the Sydney FC set-up, making 36 appearances in all competitions for the Australian side's first-team.

Pompey have already made two signings in the January transfer window, with Rob Atkinson and Isaac Hayden joining on loan from Bristol City and Newcastle United respectively.
