Newcastle United are poised to make former Chelsea youngster Kyle Scott their first signing of the summer, Football Insider understands.

Scott is available on a free transfer this summer after seeing out his contract at the Europa League champions last month.

A Newcastle source has told Football Insider that Scott has accepted the club's offer of a long-term contract and he is ready to become their first recruit of what has been a turbulent summer.

Former Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez had lined up a deal for attacking midfielder Scott and the club are still willing to push through the deal despite the Spaniard's exit at the end of last month.

Scott came through the ranks at Chelsea and was highly regarded within the corridors of power at Stamford Bridge, but he was unable to break into the star-studded first-team.

The USA Under-20 international made just one first-team appearance for Chelsea in the FA Cup against Hull in 2018 and he had a spell out on loan in Holland with Telstar last season.

Newcastle are ready to offer Scott a quicker pathway to first-team football and he is expected to sign the contract he has been offered by the club.
