Nottingham Forest and Sheffield United are in the hunt to sign newly-available midfielder Jordon Mutch, Football Insider understands.

Championship hopefuls Nottingham Forest and Sheffield United are both looking to strengthen their squads in this month's transfer window to bolster their promotion bids and they are weighing up moves for Mutch on a free transfer.

Sheffield United have already signed Kieran Dowell on loan from Everton this month, while Forest have yet to make any new additions to Aitor Karanka's side.

Former Cardiff star Mutch is a free agent after cancelling his contract at Palace early by mutual consent today.

The 27-year-old had only recently returned to Palace after a spell on loan at Major League Soccer side Vancouver Whitecaps, but he has not cancelled his contract at Palace six months early to enable himself to find a new club.

Mutch joined Crystal Palace from Queens Park Rangers in 2015, but made only 18 starts for the Eagles during his time at Selhurst Park.
