Paul Robinson has tipped Newcastle United midfielder Ki Sung-yueng to rejuvenate his career at Celtic if a deal can be agreed.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O'Leary, the former England No.1 admitted that Ki just has to look at how goalkeeper Fraser Forster has rejuvenated his career at Celtic for inspiration.

Ki featuring for Newcastle United

Robinson explained that Ki's spell at Newcastle hasn't gone to plan so believes it's looking like an exit is on the cards for him.

When asked if Ki joining the Celtic is the best move for him in January as he will feel loved there, Robinson told Football Insider: "It was a long time ago he was at Celtic, I think it was the 2011/2012 season that he was at Celtic.

"He's had spells at Swansea, Sunderland and it hasn't been a great spell at Newcastle as he didn't play much last year.

"In and out last year, not played this year, so it's looking like a move would be on the cards, and he can see how a move to Celtic can rejuvenate your career.

"Look what has happened to Fraser Forster, frozen out completely at Southampton, getting nowhere near the squad, no chance of getting a game, he goes up there and he's having a great season.

"So for someone like Ki, it would be a very good move."

Ki Sung Yeung during his Celtic days

Ki has only featured three times in the Premier League for Newcastle this season and is currently stuck on the sidelines due to a minor knock.

The 30-year-old midfield enforcer racked up 87 appearances for the Hoops during his previous spell with the club before leaving Parkhead to join Swansea City in 2021.
