Rangers and Peterborough have tabled offers for in-demand Oldham Athletic defender George Edmundson, Football Insider understands.

An Ibrox source has told Football Insider that the Scottish giants have made a verbal offers to Oldham for the signing of Edmundson as they look to secure the defender's signature.

League One Peterborough have also made a formal move to land the 21-year-old 6ft 3in centre-back.

Rangers are in the market for a new central defender this summer with Joe Worrall set to return to Nottingham Forest after his loan stint at Ibrox this season and their scouts have been alerted to Edmundson.

Englishman Edmundson is entering the final year of his contract at Oldham, but the League Two club are holding out for sizeable bids for their prize asset as they weigh up the offers from Rangers and Peterborough.

Edmundson has impressed for Oldham this season and he is regarded as one of the best centre-halves in the lower leagues.

The rising star, who has already made 79 appearances for Oldham, was rewarded for his impressive displays by being named in the League Two Team of the Year.
