Shrewsbury Town have agreed a deal to sign Wrexham defender Will Boyle, sources have told Football Insider.

Shrewsbury have beaten off interest from Gillingham to the defender’s signature in a permanent deal.

The 29-year-old found himself well down the pecking order at Wrexham and the Welsh club have agreed to let him move.

The transfer is expected to be completed imminently after the breakthrough in negotiations.

Will Boyle to undergo Shrewsbury medical after terms agreed

Boyle will undergo a medical imminently after agreeing personal terms.

He didn't play a single league minute for Wrexham last season, making just one EFL Cup and two EFL Trophy appearances.

The defender has been plagued by a calf injury over recent months and wasn't included in Phil Parkinson's squad for the second half of the campaign, as the Welsh side were promoted to the Championship.

The Scot has spent the majority of his career at Cheltenham, as well as spells at Huddersfield, York City, and Kilmarnock.

Shrewsbury finished rock bottom of League One last season, and are preparing for a campaign in the fourth tier, as they look to bounce straight back up.

Meanwhile, Football Insider exclusively revealed that Blackpool striker Jake Beesley has agreed a deal to join Burton Albion.

The forward, 28, is set to join the League One club on a two-year deal.

Burton beat off interest from several League One and League Two clubs to land the former Salford and Rochdale man.

Beesley started just three league games for Steve Bruce’s side last season, as well as making 19 substitute appearances.
