Radamel Falcao has flown to Spain to negotiate a return to Atletico Madrid, according to Spanish sources.

The Colombian striker is in the Spanish capital for talks as he attempts to cut short his disastrous season-long loan at Chelsea.

Blues manager Guus Hiddink has sanctioned the departure of the striker, who has scored just one goal during an injury-plagued spell at Stamford Bridge.

Atletico are interested in re-signing their former forward even though he is sidelined with a thigh injury until next month.

Falcao had a remarkable scoring record during his two seasons at Atletico from 2011 to 2013, striking 70 times in just 90 appearances for the La Liga team.

The Colombia international's parent club Monaco have already ruled out a return for the player in the January window due to his injury problems.

Chelsea have the option to buy Falcao from parent club Monaco for £38million in the summer but that is not an option for the champions.

In other Chelsea transfer news, Leicester have revived their move for Loic Remy after failing with a string of striker bids in the final days of the window.
