Man United are likely to look past England boss Gareth Southgate in their search for an Erik ten Hag replacement, sources have told Football Insider.

United sit eighth in the Premier League and the Dutchman is set to pay the price despite a huge injury list at Old Trafford.

England manager Southgate has been widely linked with the role as Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS look to bring in a replacement in the off-season.

The 53-year-old is under contract until the end of this year with the European Championships in Germany set to kick off next month.

Southgate is not top Man United target with Ten Hag set to be sacked

Ratcliffe and INEOS director of sport Dave Brailsford have close links with Southgate and are huge admirers of his work with England.

However, there will be no negotiations with the Three Lions boss over the Man United vacancy before or during the European Championships - which don't conclude until the end of July.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that United will look elsewhere as they search for the right man to kick-start the INEOS era at Old Trafford.

Football Insider revealed earlier this month (5 May) that Thomas Tuchel is the leading contender to be the next Man United manager.

The German is set to leave Bayern Munich at the end of the 2023-24 campaign after an unsuccessful trophyless season - their first since 2011-12.

Man United face Newcastle and Brighton in their final two league games this term, before a showpiece FA Cup final against rivals Man City on 25 May.
