'What a Signing he'd be' - Exclusive: Pundit reacts to big West Ham transfer update
Noel Whelan has urged West Ham to make a move for Nottingham Forest's Matty Cash this summer to provide "welcome competition" for Ryan Fredericks.
The former Leeds United and Coventry striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed that the 23-year-old would be a top signing for David Moyes this summer.
Cash made 45 appearances for Sabri Lamouchi's side last season and ended the campaign with three goals and five assists to his name.
However, Whelan suggested that the Irons would be making a mistake in not pursuing the English defender over the next two months.
"What a really good signing, he'd be," the ex-striker told Football Insider.
"A lot of teams admire Matty Cash and the way the he plays the game. He is tenacious, box-to-box and is another one that has been converted from a winger into a full-back and he plays it extremely well. He has got a great engine on him and a good footballing brains.
"Many clubs are looking at him but I could see him fitting in at West Ham. You have got Ryan Fredericks as well, a very good young player so it would be welcome competition."
Cash has three years remaining on his contract at the City Ground and Forest will be reluctant to lose him having narrowly missed out on the play-offs last season.
The Hammers are in desperate need of a right-back this summer after Pablo Zabaleta and Jeremy Ngakia left the London Stadium upon the expiration of their contracts last month.
