'He'll be a big player for Spurs' - Exclusive: Bruce tips top-class star to sign deal
Alex Bruce expects Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen to commit to a contract extension and be a "big player" for the Lilywhites until the end of the season.
The former Premier League defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, does not believe the 33-year-old will allow his contract situation to affect his performances.
Mourinho has confirmed to Sky Sports that the club are yet to extend the Belgian's deal past the end of the month but says he is ready to play in Friday's clash against Manchester United.
As revealed by Football Insider earlier this week, Vertonghen has two rival contract offers on the table but Spurs are expecting him to pen an extension until the end of the season.
Bruce has lauded the defender for his professionalism to date and believes he will stick around to see the season out at Spurs.
Bruce told Football Insider: "I think he's one of those very, very good professionals that will just get on with it and play.
"I think he'll give something to the team, he's a steady-eddie and that's what Tottenham need at the back.
"Their consistency levels haven't been there before the lockdown. That's one thing that Jose Mourinho will be looking to improve - the consistency levels of their performances.
"I think somebody who knows the Premier League inside out like Vertonghen, he'll be a big player for Spurs in the next nine games."
Vertonghen has played 26 times across all competitions for Spurs this season, with 19 of those appearances coming in the Premier League.
Mourinho also has the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez and Japhet Tanganga to call upon at centre-back.
