Manchester United are set to announce that goalkeeper Dean Henderson has agreed a new long-term contract and will immediately join Sheffield United on a season-long loan, Football Insider understands.

The 22-year-old has agreed the terms of an extension and the new deal and will replace his current agreement, due to expire next year.

A United source has told Football Insider the club have given the green light for Henderson to head back to Bramall Lane for the upcoming Premier League campaign.

The new deal will include a major pay hike for the United academy product, who is in the lower tier of earners at Old Trafford.

It is reward for the immense progress he made last season for Chris Wilder's team, as he started all 46 of their league matches as they secured automatic promotion.

Wilder has spoken of his desire to take Henderson back for another season and the Premier League giants are ready to grant the manager his wish.

Henderson has spent the last two seasons out on loan at Sheffield United in the Championship and Shrewsbury Town in League One, and was the established number one at both clubs.

Meanwhile, the 20-times league winners remain in talks with David de Gea over a new contract ahead of his deal expiring in the summer of 2020.

Manager Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer has spoken of his confidence that a deal can soon be finalised.
