Hibernian are set to sign Rangers attacker Glenn Middleton at the start of next week after agreeing to pay a loan fee for next season, Football Insider can reveal.

Manager Steven Gerrard has given the green light for the winger, 19, head to his side's Scottish Premiership rivals despite an impressive breakthrough campaign in 2018-19.

Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that Hibs will pay a six-figure loan fee for Middleton as well as contributing to his wages for the campaign.

The deal has been delayed because Paul Heckingbottom's side travel to Ibrox to play Rangers in tomorrow's SPL clash, a match that Middleton would not have been able to play in.

Middleton made a big impression with some dazzling performances in the first half of last season as he established himself in the senior side.

The 19-year-old, who joined Rangers from Norwich City in January of last year, made 29 appearances last season, scoring five goals and supplying five assists, before he was demoted to the reserves for the final months of the campaign.

Rangers have overhauled their attack with a string of attacker signings, with Brandon Barker becoming the latest new recruit yesterday following the earlier summer captures of Sheyi Ojo on loan from Liverpool, Jordan Jones from Kilmarnock and Jake Hastie from Motherwell.

With Jamie Murphy and Eros Grezda also still on the books, Gerrard has plenty of attacking firepower and is happy for Glasgow-born Middleton to be loaned out.
