Alan Hutton has tipped Tottenham to sign a new senior right-back to replace Serge Aurier or Matt Doherty this summer.

The former Spurs full-back, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the right-hand flank had been a "problem position" this season.

The 28-year-old, whose contract expires in the summer of 2022, is understood to be seen as "uncoachable" at Spurs.

Meanwhile, Doherty has failed to nail down a regular starting role since his move from Wolves last summer.

The 29-year-old has made just nine Premier League starts this season, the last of which came in the 3-1 defeat to Liverpool in January.

Hutton admitted he expected a lot more from the Republic of Ireland international this term and suggested a new right-back could be on the way this summer.

Hutton told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge: "I think it's been a problem area for Tottenham this season.

"I genuinely thought Doherty would come in and make a difference.

"We know how well he played at Wolves. Yes, it's difficult going from a 3-4-3 at Wolves to change into a four at Spurs.

"That position is definitely up for grabs and a big signing is likely.

"Whether they look at the summer to bring someone in or whether one of those two players really kick on and make it their own.

"I think they've got the quality to do that, it's just about showing it on the pitch."
