I would have beaten Celtic with him – Former Rangers boss makes big claim about Murty signing
Former Rangers boss Stuart McCall has said that he would have beaten Celtic if he'd been able to bring in the likes of Jamie Murphy.
McCall was talking ahead of the most eagerly-anticipated Old Firm clash in years, with Graeme Murty's men fired up and ready to try to narrow the gap at the top to just three points.
And, talking in the Daily Record, McCall thinks that Rangers have a real chance thanks to Murty's transfer business, bringing in players who have "quality – but also character".
McCall singles out Jamie Murphy for particular praise.
Murphy joined from Brighton on loan for the rest of the season, with an option for Rangers to make it permanent.
And McCall believes he could be the key, along with others who can add experience.
"Had I been able to bring in Jamie Murphy, I would have been able to beat Celtic.
"My situation was totally different because Graeme in January got a chance to bring in not just good players but good people as well, good types.
"That helps the dressing room then you have the experience of Kenny Miller and Lee Wallace.
"They were go-to men but now you have experience in Russell Martin, and Murphy who has played at a good level. That is a key element, being able to bring the people you want in."

We're not sure what Rangers fans will make of this. On the one hand it's great – McCall, like a lot of other pundits, rates Rangers chances and he's saying what fans are saying about the likes of Murphy. But on the other hand, is it as simple as that? Would he really have been able to beat Celtic if he'd had the money to bring in new recruits? He'd need to have got into the Premiership first! After his non-too-successful stint as caretaker manager we'll probably never know.
