Rangers have been handed a major boost in their bid to sign Joe Aribo after he snubbed Charlton's offer of a new contract, Football Insider understands.

The Londoners are trying to tie the goalscoring midfielder, 22, down to fresh terms as his current deal expires this summer.

A source close to Aribo has told Football Insider the player has failed to accept the deal offered as he prepares to hold talks with his many suitors.

Steven Gerrard's side are among the multiple sides, along with bitter rivals Celtic and a host of clubs south of the border, keen to sign Aribo on a free transfer this summer.

German club Frankfurt are currently in pole position in the race for his signature but Gerrard wants to hold talks with the player and try and persuade him to make the move to Ibrox.

Aribo has shot to prominence on the back of a campaign in which he has scored 10 goals from midfield as well as supplied five assists for the side that secured promotion to the Championship via the play-offs.

He has graduated from the Addicks academy to make 97 appearances in all competitions for the club.
