Rangers are likely to make a new loan swoop for Liverpool rising star Curtis Jones this summer, Football Insider understands.

The Scottish giants were blocked in their attempts to sign the goalscoring midfielder, 19, in January as Steven Gerrard looked to pluck another exciting youngster from his former club.

Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that Rangers made two loan offers for Jones in the winter window, one at the start and one at the end, and are eyeing another potential move in the next transfer window when it opens.

In the post-coronavirus world the summer market is likely to be dominated by reduced fees and significantly more loan and swap deals as club cuts costs.

Jurgen Klopp has high hopes for Jones and may regard him as a first-team squad member capable of playing more frequently next season.

The Liverpool manager was blown away by the progress made by the teenager either side of the new year, when he made two Premier League substitute appearances as well as six in the domestic cups.

Jones, who only turned 19 in January, has already made five senior starts among nine appearances.

The teenager has scored twice, including a sensational strike when a fledgling Liverpool team knocked Everton out of the FA Cup in January.

Gerrard, who used to manage Liverpool Under-18s, has seen the versatile teenager as capable of creating and scoring goals for his malfunctioning side.

Jones is also a prolific scorer and creator at age-group level, with his 18 Premier League 2 and Uefa Youth League matches this season yielding 14 goals and six assists.

Rangers have had great success in taking top young talent from the club where Gerrard has legendary status.

Ryan Kent, Ovie Ejaria and Sheyi Ojo have all made the move to Glasgow from the Champions League holders, with the former converting his initial loan to sign permanently in a £7.5million deal last summer.

Jon Flanagan also moved to Rangers from Liverpool on a free transfer in the summer of 2018.
