Ibrox Sources: Rangers table electrifying player offer, 3-year new deal on the table
Rangers have tabled a contract offer to rising star Nathan Patterson, Football Insider understands.
The Glasgow giants are in talks with the 18-year-old defender over a new deal to replace his current agreement, which expires next summer.
Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that the club have offered Patterson a three-year contract that includes a major pay hike.
They are hopeful an agreement can be reached in the coming weeks as they look to nail down the future of the rising star, who is predominantly a right-back renowned for his electrifying raids up the flank.
The first team and development squad coaches regard Patterson as not only a future Gers first teamer but also one capable of establishing himself at that level.
Graeme Murty, the former first-team boss who now manages the development side at Ibrox, claimed at the weekend that the teenager has "all the characteristics you would ascribe to an elite-level full-back.”
Patterson is seen as someone capable of challenging club captain James Tavernier at right-back next season.
Ex-Rangers right-back Alan Hutton told Football Insider last week how he's been told by former teammate and current reserve team coach Peter Lovenkrands that the club have big plans for Patterson.
Hutton told Football Insider: "I spoke to Peter Lovenkrands about him and he and Kevin Thomson, they were saying he reminded them of me when I was that age.
"He's big, my build, he's a runner, very comfortable on the ball. He's very young, trains with the first-team regularly and I think the manager really likes him. They're looking to push him on to really compete with Tavernier over the next 12, 18 months so that's a massive compliment.
"If they see him as someone who can push the captain of the club, he's obviously doing really, really well."
