Rangers captain James Tavernier is in advanced talks to join Turkish side Trabzonspor, sources have told Football Insider.

The 32-year-old has agreed personal terms with the Turkish club and negotiations between the clubs are close to securing a full agreement.

Sources have told Football Insider all parties are "optimistic" and a deal for the right-back will now get done by the end of the week.

It's unlikely Tavernier will be the only long-serving Rangers defender to leave the club this summer after Football Insider revealed Connor Goldson will likely depart after talks with Birmingham City.

Rangers look set to lose top goalscorer Tavernier

Since joining the Glasgow giants in 2015, Tavernier has made 460 appearances for the club, and was named captain back in 2018.

After arriving at the Ibrox, the right-back has been a mainstay in the first team, lifting an SPFL title, a Scottish League Cup, and a Scottish Cup.

Last season, he became the highest-scoring British defender in history, netting 125 goals since joining Rangers and providing 129 assists during his time at the club.

A set-piece maestro, last season the 32-year-old ended the campaign as Rangers' top Scottish Premier League goalscorer with 17, his most prolific return since joining the club.

The Scottish club will have to look elsewhere to replace Tavernier's goals, with a move for Plymouth Argyle’s Morgan Whittaker revealed by Football Insider on July 20th.
