Jarrad Branthwaite: Wyness reveals new Everton stance after 'ridiculous' bid

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed the club are now in a "position of strength" to keep Jarrad Branthwaite after the unofficial 30 June "deadline".

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed Sir Jim Ratcliffe will have to "learn" after submitting a "ridiculous" offer for the 22-year-old.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (2 July) that Man United are currently unwilling to meet Everton’s £70million asking price for centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite.

An initial bid from United of around £35million plus add-ons was rejected last month, and the Toffees have since submitted their 2023-24 accounts and are hopeful of avoiding a Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) breach.

Sources have also told Football Insider (4 July) that Man City have become the latest Premier League club to register their interest in signing Branthwaite.

Everton now in 'position of strength' to keep Branthwaite, says Wyness

The centre-back was an ever-present for Sean Dyche last term and has recently made his senior England debut.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “Now we’re past the 30 June deadline, we’re in a position of strength.

“From what I'm told, we can refuse ridiculous offers, like the one we received for Jarrad Branthwaite from Man United.

“The whole football community can agree on that, and it hasn’t done United or Ratcliffe any favours.

“He’ll learn as he goes on - you can’t do that kind of thing.

“I’m hoping the Branthwaite situation will be resolved with him staying past this summer deadline.”
