Joe Lewis is set to jet in to London this week as Tottenham prepare to hold showdown talks with Mauricio Pochettino, according to a report.

The Telegraph claim the Bahamas-based billionaire Spurs owner could be involved with the discussions as chairman Daniel Levy meets Pochettino following the end of the season.

It is said that Pochettino wants to be bankrolled in the transfer market before committing his long-term future to the club, with levy preparing to offer a £8.5million-a-year new contract to the manager.

Football Insider verdict:

Pochettino has dropped a few hints in recent weeks that he is no longer content to play by Levy's rules of building a title-winning squad on a shoestring budget. Spurs secured a £41million profit in their most recent financial results, and have made a net profit in the transfer market since Pochettino took over in the summer of 2014. It appears the Argentine is unwilling to double the length of his tenure without being seriously backed by the money men, both in terms of holding on to the stars already at the club, and buying new ones. Pochettino will be encouraged that a jawdropping £163,000-a-week could soon be on the table, which would be £50,000-a-week more than any Spurs employee has ever been paid, but he will want to see further evidence that Lewis and Levy can throw caution to the wind in the same summer as moving to the club's £850million new stadium.
