Newcastle are expected to try and sign Johan Bakayoko in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the 21-year-old is “on the list” for the Magpies at the turn of the year.

Well-placed sources have told Football Insider that the Premier League giants are “desperate” to sign a right-sided winger who can work in an inverted manner.

Bakayoko ticks a lot of boxes that Eddie Howe is looking for in a player, but they’re not the only Premier League club keeping tabs on him.

Liverpool are also monitoring the PSV Eindhoven star and sees him as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah if he departs the club at the end of this season.

Newcastle United are desperate for a winger like Johan Bakayoko

Howe is believed to be desperate to sign another attacking player in January to bolster his options for the rest of the season.

However, the Magpies are believed to have a better chance of signing Bakayoko in the summer transfer window when they will have more money to spend.

PSV Eindhoven will attempt to price Newcastle and any other club in the January transfer window as they are looking for between £30-40million for his services.
