Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Manchester United have the resources to fix their stadium issues and complete the Dan Ashworth deal at the same time.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – slammed Man United chiefs for not previously resolving the problems surrounding the roof at Old Trafford.

The club have failed to fix a hole in the stadium’s roof after water was seen cascading through the stands following a downpour towards the end of their game against Arsenal on 12 May.

Reports have suggested the Red Devils are stuck with the leaky roof until they decide whether to tear down Old Trafford or redevelop the stadium.

It comes as Sir Jim Ratcliffe is also looking to shake things up behinds the scenes, with Ashworth agreeing in February to leave his sporting director role at Newcastle United to join the club.

Football Insider revealed the Magpies are looking for up to £20million in compensation, but Man United remain hopeful of completing his appointment this summer.

Man United have resources to resolve Old Trafford issues

Wyness doesn’t understand why the club need to prioritise anything as he believes the funds should be there to sort all their outstanding issues out immediately.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “They are Man United. They are the biggest club in the world apparently.

“Why can’t they sort the stadium issues and complete the Dan Ashworth deal? I don’t see any reason why they have to prioritise them.

“Fixing the roof should have been done before. Obviously, there is a big structural problem. But still, it’s got to be done and that should be a given.

“In terms of everthing else, they should be able to chew and spit gum at the same time.

“I don’t see why anything has to be prioritised or made exclusive, let’s get on with all of it.

“They are a big organisation and have very wealthy owners.

“Resources aren’t an issue for them, so let’s just see clarity of thought and get on with it and get it done.”
