Kieran Maguire: Tottenham willing to make stadium 'sacrifice' for 'top priority deal'

Tottenham are happy to 'sacrifice' their Euro 2028 bid to prioritise a multi-year naming deal for their stadium.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about Tottenham's current stadium predicament.

Football Insider sources revealed in March that a stadium naming rights deal is a top priority for Tottenham but they are content to wait until their reserve price is met because of the brand exposure they are gaining in the meantime.

Spurs hired Todd Kline as commercial director in 2021 with the target of agreeing a naming rights deal, but the North London club remain patient for an offer that matches their valuation for the 62,850-seater stadium.

Tottenham also applied to have their new ground in the pool of the Euro 2028 stadiums, but this site's sources revealed that Uefa will insist on having unbranded stadiums and have no plans to make an exception for the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Maguire believes Spurs will always prioritise their naming rights deal as it is the most commercially beneficial to the club.

"Spurs will continue looking for a multi-year deal with a naming rights partner," Maguire told Football Insider.

"The money that will generate will dwarf any money they could potentially bring in from hosting two or three games in Euro 2028.

"Ultimately, the commercial decision takes priority. 

"There will be flexibility in terms of hosting matches and it will be something the Tottenham board are happy to sacrifice.

"Daniel Levy was hoping to push this through, but the naming rights deal is the club’s top priority deal."
