Rangers set to land 81-cap winger; reports he has already penned two-year deal

Former Tottenham winger Nico Kranjcar is set to clinch a free transfer to Rangers, according to reports.

The Scottish Sun claim the Croatia international is on the verge of agreeing a two-year deal after giving the club an assurance he will be at Ibrox in time for pre-season.

Kranjcar moved to the States from Dynamo Kiev in January to join New York Cosmos in the second tier of the MLS, but his contract expired on 28 May, which put the Scottish club on alert to sign him on a free transfer shortly beforehand.

The former Spurs star held talks with Rangers manager Mark Warburton when he flew to the USA last month and is currently in Zagreb doing his coaching badges with the Croatian FA.

The Scottish Sun cite reports in Croatia which claimed on Thursday night that the 31-year-old winger had already put pen to paper on a two-year Rangers contract.

The Croatian star has a vast amount of experience having played over 100 Premier League games for Tottenham, Portsmouth and QPR and earned 81 international caps.

The free agent would bring creativity and goals to the Rangers midfield as they make a return to the top flight of Scottish Football.

Warburton has already recruited four player from England this summer, with midfield duo Joey Barton and Jordan Rossiter joining from Burnley and Liverpool respectively, and Josh Windass and Matt Crooks transferring from Accrington Stanley.

In other Rangers news, the club have launched a bid to sign a 27-year-old new goalkeeper as they aim to recruit an experienced back-up to number one Wes Foderingham.
