Leeds United have opened talks to sign Swansea City centre-back Kyle Bartley and could seal the deal within weeks, according to a report.

The Yorkshire Evening Post claim United are keen to land Bartley on a permanent deal following the huge impression he made while on loan last season.

It is said that Leeds hope to wrap up an early deal for the defender, 26, soon after the Championship season has finished early in May.

The Yorkshire Evening Post report that Swansea City will listen to bids for Bartley provided they retain their Premier League status, while Bartley is open to a return to Elland Road.

He signed a four-year contract with the Welsh outfit last August that runs until the summer of 2021 but has made just 12 appearances for the club this season.

Football Insider verdict:

What a signing Bartley would be for Leeds. The 6ft 4n powerhouse was outstanding during his season-long loan in 2016-17, with his leadership, commanding presence and defensive nous the ideal counterpoint to Pontus Jansson's commitment and class. Leeds have suffered enormously this season without the consistency of Bartley, with Liam Cooper proving a far inferior performer, and it would represent a major upgrade if they can seal a deal with Swansea. The report suggests Bartley is keen on a return, which is key, as is his status at Swansea, where he has made only four league appearances in an injury-wrecked campaign. Landing Bartley would be a super move from Leeds.
