Leeds United have rejected an offer from a Spanish club for Samuel Saiz, Football Insider understands.

A source close to the Yorkshire giants has told Football Insider the club knocked back a move from a La Liga outfit to take the 28-year-old on loan next season.

Leeds want to sell Saiz permanently rather than loan him out as they did in the second half of the recently-completed season to Spanish top-tier club Getafe.

The attacking midfielder made little impression at the Madrid club and they decided not to take up the option in the dal to sign him on a permanent transfer.

It means Saiz is due to head back to Leeds when they return to pre-season training at the end of this month but he is not expected to remain at the club for long.

Manager Marcelo Bielsa has no appetite to re-integrate Saiz into his squad after he abruptly quit in the middle of last season to return to his homeland with two-and-a-half years left on his contract.

Leeds accept they are unlikely to get £6million for the player after made such little impact at Getafe, starting just two league games among 13 appearances in all competitions and scoring a single goal.

Nevertheless, the player signed from Huesca for around £3million in 2017 has a fine track record in Spain as well as at Leeds, where his 58 matches yielded 10 goals and 12 assists.
