Leeds United have continued to bolster their squad ahead of their return to the Premier League and Lukas Nmecha has given his seal of approval.

The Whites won the Championship convincingly last season to return to the Premier League after a two-year absence.

Manager Daniel Farke has already started strengthening his squad ahead of the step up with Jaka Bijol, Sebastiaan Bornauw and Nmecha all signed.

Gudmundsson arrival liked by fellow newcomer

Taking to Instagram (8 July) Leeds shared their latest summer arrival to supporters.

The club confirmed the signing of 26-year-old left-back Gabril Gudmundsson from Ligue 1 side Lille for a fee of around £10million.

Gudmondsson becomes their third defensive arrival, as Farke clearly feels the need to tighten up his defence.

Leeds conceded just 30 goals in 46 Championship games last season, but their title winning back four now looks set to be split up and Farke is targeting a goalkeeper in this window.

Promoted clubs all making a statement of intent

Football Insider Verdict

Leeds United are active in the market and clearly mean business ahead of their Premier League return.

The Yorkshire side are not content with making up the numbers next season as they make another signing which shows their ambition.

Gudmundsson has 15 caps for his country and has experience with Lille in the Champions League.

The Icelandic international was part of a Lille side last season that had the second best defence in the division with just 36 goals conceded in 34 games.

All three promoted sides have so far shown that they don't just want to compete with Sunderland and Burnley both making eye catching signings.

It looks set to be a more competitive relegation battle next season than the last two seasons when the promoted clubs have proved to be out of their depth.

If Farke can get a deal over the line for Beto, who they are linked with, then the Portuguese has shown he can find the back of the net whilst at Everton.

The 27-year-old scored eight Premier League goals last season.

Farke requires a reliable striker and more attacking options to go alongside his strong defensive arrivals.

A goalkeeper though would be a crucial piece of the puzzle as Illan Meslier has had his critics whilst at the club and was dropped at the back end of last season for 34-year-old Karl Darlow.
