Leeds are in a good position to sign Tottenham defender Ben Davies but may have to wait until the summer if the Premier League club block a January deal.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson, who remains closely connected to the club, admitted he believes the 31-year-old would be a “good fit” at Elland Road.

The Wales international is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury, but has only made 11 appearances for Spurs this season in all competitions.

Leeds are looking to strengthen their defensive options as Daniel Farke hopes to guide the Yorkshire giants back into the Premier League this season.

January will be the last opportunity for Spurs to cash-in on the defender, and that places the Whites into a good negotiating position.

Ben Davies could be a good fit at Leeds United

“What is he? He's 31 now, is contract's up this season at Ben Davies,” Robinson told Football Insider.

They need cover at centre half left back, they need cover with Firpo, it's a deal that could be done because his contract is up at [the] end of the season.

“I suspect they'll have a lot of competition with his experience, his age, fit.

“Tottenham won't be willing to deal because of their lack of cover in those type of areas.

“In that type of situation, the money that Tottenham are going to get for Ben Davies now, a loan fee or a permanent fee, it's not going to outweigh the need, what they need for cover between now and the end of the season.

“He'd be a good fit at Leeds.

Leeds United

“Going forward, maybe if Leeds get into the Premier League next year, it'll be an option for both player and Leeds.

“But at the moment, I just can't see how Tottenham would deal on a player when they're so desperately short in those areas.”
