Paul Robinson has claimed Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount would be "an amazing" signing for Liverpool.

However, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one suggested a deal would be extremely difficult to do with Chelsea likely to dig their heels in.

Mount has 18 months left on his contract at Stamford Bridge.

Graham Potter's side are keen to keep hold of the England international but contract talks have so far proved unfruitful.

According to The Guardian (20 January), Liverpool are putting plans in place for a summer bid for Mount.

The Reds want to rebuild their midfield ahead of the 2023-24 campaign.

When asked by Football Insider if Mount would be a welcome addition at Anfield in the summer, Robinson said: "I'm sure Jurgen Klopp would love to have Mason Mount in his squad.

"He is an amazing player. Chelsea will do everything they can to keep hold of him though I'm sure. They will not want to sell him to a rival but if they were to, they would demand a huge fee.

"Mount could play as part of that midfield three or as part of the front three for Liverpool. He is versatile and that will appeal to Klopp.

"Can I see it happening? No, to be honest. Certainly not this month. I understand why Liverpool are keeping an eye on his contract situation though."
