Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed he expects Liverpool to make "one or two" signings in the final week of the transfer window.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted fresh faces are needed "for the well-being of the squad".

Liverpool are the only Premier League club yet to sign a new first-team player in the summer window despite the arrival of new manager Arne Slot at the start of the off-season.

The Reds have seen a deal for Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi collapse in a big blow for Slot and new transfer chiefs Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards.

Liverpool could add 'one or two' as Kvaratskhelia update emerges, says Wyness

The Merseysiders have been in the market for a wide forward all transfer window and are keen to make a marquee signing this summer after missing out on multiple top targets.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I’d start to feel a little more concerned about the clock ticking down if I were Liverpool.

“I respect greatly when clubs feel they don’t have to go mad and make signings all over the place, but I do believe that Liverpool need freshness in the squad.

“They’ve got the new manager in, new training techniques - but they need fresh personnel.

“I thought they would have moved by now, I must admit.

“Certainly, the signs in the second half against Ipswich were good - so the fans aren’t crying out.

“But I still think for the well-being of the squad, some freshness will help.

“I think there’ll be one or two coming in before the deadline.”
