Liverpool are considering delaying their transfer business until January after struggling to bolster their squad in the off-season, sources have told Football Insider.

Those three areas have been identified as the top targets, but Reds transfer chiefs Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards have so far been reluctant to sanction any deals as they feel prices are inflated.

The Merseysiders are the only Premier League side yet to make a summer signing.

Sources say that unless the right deals become available before Friday's (30 August) deadline, Liverpool will keep their powder dry until the January window.

Goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili is expected to join the Reds but will be loaned back to Valencia for the 2024-25 campaign as Alisson continues between the sticks.

Liverpool not afraid to delay deals until January

It is believed transfer chiefs at Anfield will not rush into unsuitable deals even with the club embarking on a rebuild in the post-Jurgen Klopp era.

Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi had looked set to join Liverpool but eventually decided to stay in Donostia.

The Reds will start their Champions League campaign next month and find out their league phase opponents on Thursday (29 August).
