Liverpool will not rush into their January business despite their frustration in the summer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (17 September) that the Merseysiders are exploring deals for a defensive midfielder and left-sided centre-back ahead of the mid-season window.

Arne Slot and his recruitment team wanted to strengthen those areas in the summer but were frustrated in their efforts to improve the squad.

Martin Zubimendi was a top target but chose to remain with Real Sociedad and sources say a deal cannot be resurrected.

It is believed Liverpool will again be willing to keep their powder dry in January if the right deals are not available.

Sources say the Reds won't be forced into "panic buys" mid-season despite their sparse depth in some areas of the squad.
