Liverpool are ready to battle Leeds United for the capture of Blackburn Rovers starlet Luke Brennan this summer, Football Insider has learned.

This site revealed earlier last week that Leeds and Brighton are among the clubs closely monitoring the 18-year-old winger.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that the Premier League leaders are also hot on the trail of Brennan.

Such is the pulling power of the runaway Premier League leaders and their manager Jurgen Klopp that Leeds and Brighton face being blown out of the water.

Yet it remains to be seen whether Brennan would be more attracted to joining a club where there is a clearer path from academy to first team.

Leeds and Brighton have both showed in recent years that their top youth-team products can make it to the senior side if they are good enough.

At the European champions the bar is set far higher, with Trent Alexander-Arnold - widely regarded as one of the best young players in world football - the only homegrown star to have established himself as a first-team regular during Klopp's reign.

Brennan has caught the attention of the Premier League pair and Championship leaders Leeds for his displays for Rovers' Under-18s and Under-23s.

He has shot to prominence with his performances in their run to this season's FA Youth Cup semi-finals.

The left winger scored in their 4-1 demolition of Arsenal and his pace, skill and directness on the flank has got talent spotters excited.

Coincidentally, Liverpool may also be locked in a transfer battle with Leeds and Brighton this summer over Ben White.

The Seagulls centre-back is on the Merseysiders' shopping list after his outstanding campaign on loan at Elland Road.
