Manchester City could agree a late deal to sign Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz on loan before Monday’s transfer deadline.

That is the view of former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider a temporary move for the Brazil international remains the most likely option for the Premier League champions.

Luiz previously spent two years at the Etihad before leaving for Aston Villa in 2019.

The 26-year-old went on to become a key player at Villa Park, helping his former side qualify for the Champions League last season.

The midfielder joined Juventus in a £42.5million deal last summer, but he has been limited to just five starts in his 19 appearances for the Italian giants.

Man City could agree straight loan deal for Douglas Luiz

Borson suggested any loan deal for the midfielder would not include an obligation-to-buy clause.

He told Football Insider“I suspect they are still looking for a central midfield player, but they somehow can’t find what they want in the market.

“I do find it quite surprising because they have got the whole of world football to look for a player with more legs than they currently have in that midfield.

“The midfield that they had in midweek was two 30-year-olds, 34 and 33.

“It’s clearly too old, but they don’t seem to be able to find who they want.

“I still think the most likely deal of all of them is that Juventus at the 11th hour accept that they can’t get a fee for Douglas Luiz and City sign him on what’s known as a dry loan these days, with no obligation to buy.

“I think that is still probably the most likely.”
