Manchester United failed in a last-ditch bid to hijack Chelsea’s deal for Tosin Adarabioyo, sources have told Football Insider. 

The English centre-back was already committed to joining Chelsea by that stage on a free transfer from Fulham once his contract expires later this month. 

The 26-year-old would have represented a cheap alternative to some of the other names on Man United’s list to fill the right-sided centre-back spot vacated by Raphael Varane. 

Football Insider revealed Adarabioyo rejected multiple contract offers to remain at Fulham before signing a deal at Stamford Bridge. 

Man United to explore other deals after Tosin Adarabioyo failure

Adarabioyo commanded plenty of interest in recent months following his impressive performances since signing for Fulham from Manchester City in 2020. 

Man United were joined in their interest by Newcastle United after Football Insider revealed the Tyneside club made him a triple-your-money contract offer.

But the Manchester-born defender signed a deal with Chelsea, meaning Old Trafford chiefs will now have to explore some of their other options. 

The Premier League giants are on the lookout for a new centre-back after it was confirmed Varane will leave the club once his contract expires later this month and speculation continues around the future of Harry Maguire. 

Football Insider revealed Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite makes up part of a three-man shortlist of potential central defensive signings this summer. 

The England international has drawn the attention of multiple top clubs following several impressive performances since breaking into the first team at Goodison Park last season.

Man United are monitoring his situation after Football Insider revealed Everton will need to sell at least one of their “big” stars before they submit their accounts at the end of this month to help balance the books.
