Man United have registered their interest in West Ham star Declan Rice in a swap deal as the race for his signature hots up, sources have told Football Insider.

Man City have been pushing to beat long-term frontrunners Arsenal to the signing of the 24-year-old Hammers captain, despite only entering the race to sign him at the 11th hour.

United had been waiting in the wings in case the north Londoners, as well as neighbours City, will not pay the West Ham asking price.

Now they are prepared to sensationally offer around £45million in cash plus two players, one of whom would be Harry Maguire, in an exchange deal.

United believe that could be of interest to West Ham, who have long had an interest in Maguire and are also in the market for a centre-back this summer.

It is believed the Irons are holding out for £100million for their star man. Arsenal value Rice between £80-85million with his contract expiring next year.

It has been reported that City will be prepared to pay £75m plus an additional £15m in bonuses payable across two years for Rice.

But potential issues over the fee keeps the door open for United.

Rice led West Ham to their first trophy in nearly half a century last season and continued to demonstrate he is one of the Premier League’s best players.

He made 50 appearances across all competitions, including 37 league matches and 11 European games for the Irons.

Rice was top for recoveries, interceptions and distance carrying the ball in the Premier League last season.
