Man United are in advanced talks with midfield sensation Kobbie Mainoo over a new contract at the club, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed negotiations are ongoing over a new agreement despite the 18-year-old only signing his last deal in February 2023.

That contract is set to run until June 2027 - with Man United holding the option to extend it by a further 12 months.

Club chiefs have been blown away with Mainoo's recent development and want to reward his progress with a mega-money new agreement.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that talks are ongoing between all parties and are advancing well.

Mainoo in advanced talks over bumper new deal after electric start at Man United

Mainoo has recently broken through into Erik ten Hag's senior Man United squad after graduating from the club's academy.

He had been tipped for a key role from the outset in the 2023-24 campaign but a serious ankle injury excluded him from playing a part in the first three months of the season.

The midfielder has made 20 appearances across all competitions this term, scoring twice - including a dramatic last-gasp winner away at Wolves in February.

Mainoo made his senior debut in the 2022-23 campaign but is now a key part of Ten Hag's side and has started in the last 12 Premier League fixtures.

Man United sit sixth in the top-flight and hold a faint hope of Champions League qualification if England is given a fifth place in the competition.

The Red Devils beat Liverpool on Sunday (17 March) with Mainoo playing a starring role.

That victory set up an FA Cup semi-final against Coventry City at Wembley next month.
